Celebrating IWD • A Strong, Beautiful You

In a company largely comprised of women, at the Shanty Corporation
International Women's Day, or IWD, is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the social landscape within which we find ourselves, our shared triumphs, and to discuss the issues and
roadblocks we face for the road ahead when it comes to equality for all.
As part of our discussion, we had the opportunity to sit down with designer, Amy for The Shanty Corporation, who shared her experiences and
perspectives on what it means to be a woman working in the fashion industry in 2023.

Q: What changes have you noticed as a woman in the workplace over the span of your career?
A: Honestly, I think we are so lucky working for a company run by a very passionate and hard-working group of (mostly!) women, it’s always been a really supportive environment from the start. The Shanty Corp. have set the bar for women in the workplace very high, I would hope to see the support we all have here in other businesses too.

Q: What is the most important piece of advice you have been given?
A: Be here now! Sometimes it’s easy to worry about things outside of your control and focus on things that haven’t even happened yet, or maybe something you wished you’d done differently.

Q: What is your go to style like?
A: I’m a pants and classic shirt girl for sure, or if I’m feeling lazy, a maxi dress and a fun sneaker is also a go-to!

Q: What styles that you wear do you feel powerful in?
A: It sounds cliché, but there really is nothing quite like rocking a matching suit jacket and pants!

Q: What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
A: Take every opportunity you can! I always say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and having a network of people around you who can support, guide and teach you is priceless. You never know what you’ll learn or gain from chatting with people from the industry you’d like to work, or having a go at something new!
